Awards, Ernie Pyle, and Tibetan Center highlight day

Ernie Pyle was an alumnus of Indiana University.  Columnists heard authorities on Pyle’s work speak on appreciating the work of the famous correspondant.

Conference attendees visited the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center in Bloomington where they ate traditional Tibetan food and met Arjia Rinpoche, Director of the Center and author.

Carl Hiaasen, columnist for the Miami Herald and winner of the Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award for 2010 accepted his award from NSNC President Samanta Bennett and spoke to the conference.

Winner of the Mystic Tie Award, a tradition prank among NSNC members, was Brian J. O’Connor of the Detroit News for his tongue-in-check suggestion for a fool-proof solution to plug the disastrous Gulf oil leak with mysterious Puruvian dolls from the Kinsey Institute .

Winners of the Writing Contest were presented with their awards and a list of winners has been released and is available.
