New Blogs to Check Out

A number of people have let us know about new blogs that we are invited to visit. Charles Davis, University of Missouri Associate Professor, has a site featuring news and tips on Freedom of Information, something all journalists are interested in. NSNC member Susan Young has a new blog offering advice on elder issues, and Humor Columnist Michele Wojciechowski invites us to visit “MoJo’s World,” where life is always funny:

NSNC Member Susan Young has unveiled a new blog at WordPress called Hippies to Boomers. Baby Boomers are beginning to ease into old age and have grandchildren…as well as parents living into their 80’s and 90’s, which causes them to be pulled in three directions. Her blog will address some of the issues of aging, parenting, and becoming the parent to your parents.

Susan also advocates for the many issues surrounding epilepsy from which her daughter Alison suffers and now controls with medication.

Her blog is a work in progress and she will appreciate any criticism or advice offered.  You can reach her at susandyoung@hotmail.com or say hello in person at the Detroit conference which she plans to attend.

Charles Davis, PhD, Associate Professor at University of Missouri-Columbia, writes to tell our members about his freedom of information blog, called The Art of Access.  The blog gives some well-organized strategies to show what to do when requesting public records.

On this useful website you’ll find Freedom of Information resources for journalists and tips on how to request and receive the public information you need, even if you were previously denied. It also has articles and updates about current issues involving freedom of information. The site is well worth a visit and you’ll be amazed at the things you didn’t know and the ideas for stories that you will find.

Charles Davis is the executive director of the National Freedom of Information Coalition, former chairman of the Society of Professional Journalists’ national Freedom of Information Committee. He is a former newspaper reporter and national correspondent and currently teaches access to information and media law.

NSNC Member Michele Wojciechowski enthustically announced her new blog called Wojo’s Word on the NSNC Discussions List. She is thrilled that her vision has become a reality and hopes that members will check it out.

Michele is an award-winning writer and humorist who has written for everything from Family Circle to Boys’ Life and her humor has appeared in publications like the LA Times Magazine, BaltimoreSun.com, and the Chicago Tribune’s RedEye.com.

Wojo says she has always been funny and attributes it to her parents who also gave her the great last name. She says “I’ve also set up a Facebook page, Wojo’s World; so if you could “like” me, that would rock. And you can find me on Twitter at @wojosworldtm.” Sounds as if this humor writer is really getting serious about being online.
