Board of Directors Meets

Major items of discussion at the April meeting of the NSNC Board of Directors were upcoming conferences and the writing contest. The NSNC Board of Directors met Monday evening, April 11, with a quorum present in the chat room.

Ed Grisamore has already begun to line up speakers and sponsors for next year’s 2012 conference in Macon, Georgia. Additional possibilities and names were brought up at the meeting. Grisamore suggested a late May or early June time-frame for next year’s conference due to the weather being hot in Georgia later in the summer.

Brian O’Connor, Conference Chair for the upcoming conference in Detroit, was unable to be at the meeting due to a conflict in his schedule, but gave a detailed written report on current financial sponsorships. Additional sponsorship slots are still available by contacting O’Connor. There was discussion of whether a postal mailing is needed to further publicize the conference or if current publicity is sufficient.

The Board wants the organization to sponsor a silent auction at the conference to help raise money for the student scholarship fund. Donations of items for the auction are being accepted now. Contact Brian O’Connor via the feedback form for additional information.

O’Connor also encourages members to contact friends or professional acquaintances and personally invite them to attend the conference.

Memberships and writing contest entries were up this year Luenna Kim, Executive Director, reported. The contest entries have been sent to the judges. Winners will be notified when judging is complete and announcements to the public and awards will take place at the conference in Detroit. The scholarship contest has also closed and entries are currently being read by the judges.

The nominating committee for next year’s board has been appointed and is currently working on finding candidates to recommend for the vacant offices.
