The 9th annual meeting of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation, as required by the IRS, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 (UPDATED) in the NSNC EF Chat Room. The five officers (President Jim Casto, Vice President Eric Heyl, Secretary Dave Lieber, Treasurer Joe Blundo and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Dr. Amy Reynolds) will begin the second year of a 2-year term as appointed in 2010 by NSNC President Samantha Bennett and affirmed by current President Ben Pollock.

Financial records for the past year will be presented and the 2011 and 2012 scholarships discussed. The NSNCEF Scholarship Winner Hall of Fame  listing past scholarship winners can be found online. The NSNC’s 2011 scholarship contest drew about 80 entries. Suzette Standring, Ben Pollock, Sheila Moss and Dave Astor were the first-round judges. Don Fry of the Poynter Institute picked the winners.

The most recent winner was Jocelyn Rousey of Boston College who received a $1000 scholarship and attended the Detroit Conference as a guest of the organization. Of the 2011 winner, Don Fry commented “Ms. Rousey writes about Jon Stewart, the Constitution, and WikiLeaks in columns based on solid information and thinking. Her prose is as clear as her opinions.”
