John P. Avlon is an active member of the NSNC. He is a senior columnist for Newsweek and the Daily Beast, as well as a CNN contributor. In addition to editing Deadline Artists, he authored Independent Nation: How Centrists Can Change American Politics and Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America.  Previously, he was a columnist and associate editor for The New York Sun and worked as chief speechwriter for Rudolph Giuliani when he was the mayor of New York City.
