Columnists, bloggers and guests coming to the 38th annual conference of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, June 26-29, 2014, this post is for you.

It comprises emailed notes to those who have signed up so far that will help make our conference beneficial and fun. We’ll add tips and suggestions here as they come up — and note when we’ve updated.

Optional Thursday Dinner — Over 35 RSVP’d for the optional Thursday dinner on June 26. It’s at Logan Tavern — 1423 P Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 — (202) 332-3710. We are meeting in the hotel lobby at 5:15 pm. Running late? Please meet us at the restaurant. For those who haven’t paid yet, no worries — just bring a check or cash for $30 (includes gratuity) with you.

Hospitality Suite — Opens around 8 p.m. Thursday in the hotel’s Congressional Room.

Registration — 4-6 p.m. Thursday (hotel check-in starts at 3), otherwise sign in beginning at 8 a.m. Friday in the Small Foyer outside the National Hall.

Dress Code — Sessions are casual, but the Friday and Saturday dinners are business casual or better (no jeans or shorts please).

Shoes — We will be walking a few blocks Thursday night to Logan Tavern and Friday night from the charter bus stop to the U.S. Capitol building so please bring comfortable, sturdy shoes.

Auction — Remember that our NSNC Education Foundation is an IRS-approved 501(c)3, making donations and purchases deductible contributions. Unless otherwise noted, each auction item will have a $1 starting bid with $1 increments. We accept major credit/debit cards, as well as checks and cash. So leave space in your luggage to bring interesting, collectable, whimsical, educational or valuable auction contributions, and be ready to bid!

  • From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA): Head North on the ramp, and merge onto George Washington Parkway North. Take I-395 North towards DC. Merge onto US-1 North. Stay in left lane to go onto 14th Street NW until you reach Thomas Circle. Make a slight right onto Thomas Circle NW. Taxi est. $26/each way.
  • From Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD): Take I-66 East toward Washington. Cross the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. Follow Constitution Avenue to 15th Street, NW. Turn left onto 15th Street and follow it to K Street, NW. Cross K Street and 15th becomes Vermont Avenue. Follow Vermont Avenue two blocks to Thomas Circle. Taxi est. $75/each way.
