2015 Columnist Scholarship Extended to April 1

Each year, the National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation sponsors a unique scholarship for student columnists. College writers are encouraged to enter our 17th annual contest for collegiate newspaper columnists.

The winner receives a $1,000 scholarship. Second- and third-place finalists receive certificates of achievement.

In addition, the winner will be the guest of the NSNC at its 2015 conference in Indianapolis, June 25-28. The NSNC Education Foundation will pay the winner’s airfare, hotel, shuttle and registration fees. The scholar will be listed in the NSNC’s College Columnist Hall of Fame.

The Jeff Zaslow College Columnist Award is open to undergraduates (including seniors) who write bylined general interest, editorial-page or specialized (humor, sports, business, arts, culture etc.) columns that are published in the print or online editions of college newspapers, i.e., one whose main circulation is on a university or college campus. Students may submit no more than one entry, consisting of three columns.

There is no entry fee. Judges are professional news media columnists.

The deadline for entering the 2015 contest is March 15, 2015 has been extended to Wednesday, April 1, 2015. The three sample columns must have been published or posted between March 1, 2014, and Feb. 28, 2015.

Jeffrey Zaslow was a best-selling author and Wall Street Journal columnist who died in February 2012 in an auto accident at the age of 53.
