National Society of Newspaper Columnists to Recognize 2025 Annual Columnist Contest Winners
The National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) President and Board of Directors are pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Annual Columnist Contest at an online awards celebration on July 17 at 7 p.m. EST.
“The NSNC column contest isn’t just good — it’s the gold standard in our field. If you care about great writing, this is where excellence lives,” said Meredith Cummings, president of the NSNC. “We celebrate the best in column writing, and the awards ceremony is where that brilliance takes center stage. We welcome everyone to join us for the fun and festivities.”
This year’s contest received 155 entries in eight categories, including General Interest Print, General Interest Online, Humor Print, Humor Online, Sports, Social Justice, Lifestyles, and Crisis Commentary.
“We were overwhelmed by the quality and depth of the work that was submitted from some of the top columnists and writers in the industry,” said Joanne Brokaw, contest director. “NSNC can’t wait to share the award-winning work with its members at the online awards ceremony this month.”
Accomplished, award-winning journalists from across the country served as this year’s judges. Awards will include First, Second, and Third Place, and Honorable Mention. Certificates will be issued to winning columnists. To see a list of our past contest winners, click here.
Additionally, NSNC will honor two columnists with special awards in 2025. Journalist Eugene Robinson has been selected to receive the Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions in the field. Susan Odgers will also be honored this year with the Will Rogers Humanitarian Award.
