Congratulations to Garret Mathews on his retirement!

Congratulations to Garret Mathews, 73, who has retired from writing the Metro column for the Courier & Press in Evansville, Indiana. Mathews started his newspaper career in 1972 at the Bluefield, W. Va., Daily Telegraph and moved to the Midwest in 1987. He has penned more than 6,000 columns on every subject from murderers and moonshiners to an exotic dancer who wanted to be a herpetologist. His 12 books include “Swing, Batta” about coaching 9-year-old baseball players was published by the Michigan State University Press and it received a review in The New York Times. The IndyStar recently did a story on his ability to juggle a 16-pound shot put and two bean bags. Connect with Garret online at www.plugggerpublishing.com.
