Heartfelt Sympathy from NSNC

NSNC would like to express its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Robert Lawrence "Larry" Maddry. He passed away on March 29, and he had been in a long-term care facility for the last few years in gradual decline. Maddry was 90 years old, just one week shy of his next birthday. His son, Larry, remembers the excitement he had in organizing the first NSNC Conference in Virginia Beach. Read Larry's obituary in The Virginian-Pilot: https://www.pilotonline.com/obituaries/robert-lawrence-larry-maddry-virginia-beach/

Nick Clooney: Things I Thought I Knew, and Other Reflections

On June 9, 2018, as people applauded Nick Clooney’s wonderful speech, NSNC member Rick Horowitz sprang into action. Rick asked me, “Any way we can ask Nick for his speech notes?” It hadn’t occurred to me that Nick Clooney had his entire speech written down on the yellow notepad in front of him. Bullet points, sure. But…

My Life in Words

By Chris Carosa NSNC President Five-hundred words. That’s what Bonnie told me. “For your first President’s Letter, introduce yourself,” she said. “How many words?” I countered, like a schoolboy trying to game the homework assignment. “Five-hundred,” came the response. “Well,” I exhaled, “that is 200 more than Leonidas had men.” So, in the spirit of…

Understanding Gender-inclusive Pronouns

By Curtis Honeycutt NSNC Member June is LGBT Pride Month, commemorating the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. Since then, the U.S. cultural understanding of LGBT rights has progressed considerably, although we’ve still got a long way to go (which is akin to saying hammerhead sharks have more to learn about rules of the road before they’ll be…
